CHILDREN’S QUESTIONS TO A BURN SURVIVOR (PART 6)

Hi, you are “face to face with Shell”.

I am continuing with the series “Children’s Questions”.

Children seem to notice my thick nail on my thumb, rather than the scars on my face, arms, neck…not even my “claw hand” but my thick nail on my thumb.  As my hand received fourth degree burns, my hand is now what I call “a claw” and my nails are either hardly there or very thick, like my thumb nail.

My nails grow is all different ways and actually can get in the way, get caught on things, that’s why I keep them quite short; I file them down.

You can see my thick thumb nail in these photographs below:

Please a have a look at the next video in the series of “children’s questions” below:

I can sometimes get asked:  “Why are your ears pointed”?  I love this one; dependent on the children’s age, I sometimes tell them that I’m a pixie.  You can make whole stories up and make something very magical of it all; especially when the children are very young and it is not appropriate to go into any real detail about your injuries.  One of my “nieces” still refers to my “pixie ears”, she wanted a pair as a child (she is in her twenties now)!
