CHILDREN’S QUESTIONS TO A BURN SURVIVOR (PART 1)

Hi, you are “face to face with Shell”.

This is the first part of the series that deals with “children’s questions”.

Please watch the video below, where I talk about a situation, which was a first for me:

If you are explaining scars, burns, etc., to a child; make it age appropriate and remember that there is no need to “over-explain”.

Keep the conversation age appropriate and above all, do not scare the child.

DO NOT use explicit words.  In this case; “explosion, blood, death”.

Keep it simple and if the child does not ask; think, do you really need to explain?

You can make children “fire aware” without the need for using words that may scare them.

You could say:  “Please be careful when you are around fire”.

If the child asks “why”?  Then you could explain further, again using words that are age appropriate to the child.
