The next story I am going to tell you happened while I was still in the Burns Unit.  I had been taken off my “feeding tube”, which I spoke about in the last video.  I was underweight and my care team were trying to help me to regain my full appetite.  There were days that I just didn’t feel like eating.

The Nursing Officer visited my room one morning (I take it she had heard that I wasn’t eating that well).  It didn’t help that I was not a great fan of cereal and especially not of milk.

So, she had come into my room to make sure that I was going to eat something for breakfast.  I can remember it was rice crispies.  I was not for eating them at all.  She asked me if I would eat three spoonfuls for her and I refused.  She kept trying to persuade me and then eventually said, as she sat herself down in a chair opposite me:  “Well, I’ve got all day, I’ll sit here until you have eaten three spoonfuls”.

After a little while, I could see that she was not going to move, so I ate the three spoonfuls and said:  “There”!  She said:  “Ok, I’ll see you again tomorrow”…lol.  She did come back but I soon realised that it was much easier to just actually eat the cereal.

Again, this was being done for my own good, and yet again, I will say that I shall be forever grateful to these people who encouraged and helped me along my road to recovery.

Stay strong and we’ll chat soon.
