BURNED WITCH OF WOOKEY

Hi, you are “face to face with Shell”.

I hope you have been enjoying this series on “having fun with burns”?

As I have said before, yeah, it is no joke what burn survivors go through but these are just a few lighthearted stories that I want to share with you…it’s how I deal with my scars/disfigurement and what happened to me.

HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO APPLY FOR AN UNUSUAL JOB?  I DID…

Please watch this video and read on:

Before Chris (my husband) and I went travelling, we would take holidays to Cornwall (for those of you outside of the UK, it is a county in England, at the southwestern tip) we totally love it down there, it is so beautiful.  As it was a long way from where we stayed at the time in Central Scotland, we would take 3 weeks off work and take a road trip down, stopping off along the way.  One stop-off we took was at Wookey Hole, which is a village in the county of Somerset.  Wookey Hole caves have a legend of a “witch”.

We had a great two day stopover at Wookey Hole and took the tour of the caves; they were stunning.  We signed up for the Wookey Hole newsletter as we were leaving.

We had a great holiday in Cornwall and on our return, I received an email that Wookey Hole was looking for a new witch.  The position of The Witch of Wookey Hole was soon to become vacant and they were looking for a new one.  The job would include entertaining guests at Wookey Hole.  I decided that I wanted to apply.

Application photo (2014).

It was the same as any other job application; the only difference was that it was required that all applicants sent photographs of how they would come dressed to work.  I just wore my own clothes and Chris and I had a photo shoot.  I loved it!

Remembering my early experiences of employment, I thought it prudent to contact the Human Resources Department, to tell them that I had been burned and that my scars were visible, and was it worth me applying.

And one more (2014).

The gentleman that I spoke to was brilliant.  I explained my situation and he said:  “Ok, no bulls**t, no, it would not affect your application at all”.

So, I sent everything off.  Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the “audition/interview” on the date specified but here is my “audition” story:

“Hi, I am Shell and I have just recently arrived here from Scotland.  I was found guilty of being a witch in my village and I was sentenced to burn.  They tied me to the stake and as they were lighting the pyre, my friends (who were also witches) threw my trusted broom towards me.  I managed to grab my broom, as they hadn’t tied me that well to the stake and I made my escape.  Unfortunately some of the flames did burn me but with a little magick, I was able to heal them enough to fly down here.  These scars I will be left with but I am happy that I found sanctuary here”.

Chris said that I would have been in with a good chance of getting the job.
