autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After months in the Burns Unit of Bangour Hospital, I got my first visit home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It was just for the afternoon but it was amazing.\u00a0 I got to go home, even if it was just for a little while.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">These visits did increase through time though.\u00a0 The only hard part was going back to the Burns Unit; especially if it was a weekend &#8220;pass&#8221;, as I had spent a longer time at home.\u00a0 As the time grew closer for me to go back to the hospital, my heart would sink.\u00a0 I remember getting to sit in the front seat of the car and my dad would sing to me all the way back to the hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The first time I was allowed home, the newspapers had reported that there was no &#8220;homecoming party&#8221; for me but later my friends told me that they wanted to have a party but my parents had thought that it would be better just to let me come home without a fuss.\u00a0 In hindsight, I am glad that they advised this, it may have been too much for me.\u00a0 A party may have been good as well though, lol.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2909\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2909\" class=\"wp-image-2909 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/facetofacewithshell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG-20180819-WA0000-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/facetofacewithshell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG-20180819-WA0000-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/facetofacewithshell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG-20180819-WA0000-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/facetofacewithshell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG-20180819-WA0000-624x832.jpg 624w, http:\/\/facetofacewithshell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/IMG-20180819-WA0000.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2909\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>The first time I appeared in the media, supported by mum and dad (1984)<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I felt ok going out in my home village.\u00a0 It was quite a small village at the time and everyone knew what had happened to me, which made it a whole lot easier going out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I remember having my first walk outside with my dad; just to the bottom of the street to where the main shops were.\u00a0 I passed a group of my friends who shouted over:\u00a0 &#8220;Hello&#8221;.\u00a0 It was great; the first time I had seen my friends outside of the hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The doorbell rang later that afternoon and my mum was greeted by the same group of friends I had seen earlier on.\u00a0 My mum invited them in but they said that there were too many of them.\u00a0 I went to the door and they had a box of chocolates for me.\u00a0 I was over the moon.\u00a0 The majority of them were boys and for thirteen\/fourteen year olds to come to the door as they did, I think was pretty amazing.\u00a0 It showed me their awesome character.\u00a0 We chatted for a while.\u00a0 It was great seeing them and I so appreciated them coming to see me, it really meant the world to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I&#8217;ll never forget that first time home.\u00a0 It was amazing.\u00a0 I had to get used to a new home though.\u00a0 My parents had moved into my gran&#8217;s house (my gran who had died in the explosion).\u00a0 This was all done while I was in hospital, not long after the &#8220;accident&#8221;.\u00a0 It felt a bit weird;
