AFTER RECEIVING FIFTY PERCENT BURNS; I ENDED UP WITH PIXIE EARS!
On this page I am going to continue with the theme of “fun with burns”. Yeah, of course, it is not funny if you have been burned or are going through a really tough time but I just want to bring in some laughs and show you how I cope with being burned/disfigured/looking different. I was 50% burned in a gas explosion in 1984, therefore, I am quite far along in my journey. The “curl” parts of my ears were burned off; here I want to tell you a funny little story about my ears.

I just love the story of my “Pixie ears”. Children can be so full of fun and SO honest.
When this child jumped up on my lap and looked at my ears and said what she did…I loved it…it was an amazing thing to say. She didn’t see my scars or my burns…she saw ME, with “Pixie ears”. I have to be honest, I was truly made-up. Everyone in the room laughed together. What an awesome thing to say.
The little girl who said this to me is all grown up now and living an amazing life. When we do see each other, we always have a laugh about her telling me that I had “Pixie ears” and how she wished she had them too…maybe just not the way I got mine…lol.
Recently, I attended the Dan’s Fund For Burns weekend in Oxford, where I met others that had Pixie ears…awesome!
