BURN SURVIVOR AND HEALTH CARERS (PART 5)

Hi, you are “face to face with Shell”.

I am going to carry-on with my series of “Burn Survivor and Health Carers” but I am now going to look on the lighter side of things; where I “fought” with my health professionals and lost, and quite rightly so…lol.

Before I carry-on, have you seen the other pages in this series?  If not, please click on the links below:

This story I am going to tell you happened not long after my burn injury.  I was in the Burns Unit and I had to be fed via a tube that went in through my nose, down the back of my throat, and then into my stomach.

Unfortunately, some of the formulas did not agree with me and I would be sick, therefore, the tube would become dislodged and had to be put back down.  This was a horrible thing to have done and I obviously dreaded it.

This one day, I was sick and my feeding tube had become dislodged once again.  The Charge Nurse told me that she would have to put another tube back in.  This day I was having none of it and I told the Charge Nurse that I wasn’t going to have it done, and she told me that it was.  I told her that if she was going to put the tube down, I would just be sick again and dislodge it once more.  She told me, in a quite “matter of fact” manner, that this would be fine and that she would just put it back in again.  I thought better of this and let her do what needed to be done…lol.

The Charge Nurse left my room, as my mum and dad were coming to visit me.  My mum told me that the Charge Nurse’s hair was undone and she was fixing her hat.  My mum had asked if everything was ok.  The Charge Nurse said that it was and that she had just had a “little fight” with me.  My mum asked if she had won and she replied:  “Oh yes”…lol…excellent.

I hope you enjoyed this little funny story.
