Hi, you are “face to face with Shell”.
I think it is important to have a skin care routine; whether you have scarred skin or not.
I think it is even more important when the weather turns colder. Just now it is winter in Scotland (January 2020). I find that my skin dries out even more in the colder months.
Obviously when you are in the very early stages of scar management, it is VERY important to cream and massage your skin, and to keep it protected.
Here, I am more talking about when your injuries have healed; however, your skin still needs to be taken care of. It is important to still keep your “normal” skin and scars moisturised. By doing this, my skin is more supple, especially my burn scars.
Please watch this video and read on for more information:
Below is a link to the “Egyptian Magic page” (one of the products that I talk about in the video above):
BURN SURVIVOR: REVIEW OF EGYPTIAN MAGIC
MY SKIN CARE ROUTINE:
I wash with a moisturising shower cream. If you prefer a bath, you can add an emollient to the water; Oilatum is brilliant (I used this in the early years).
After showering, I apply baby oil onto my wet skin and then pat dry my skin. PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN USING BABY OIL, AS THE PRODUCT CAN MAKE SURFACES SLIPPERY!
I then apply a moisturising cream or lotion, paying particular attention to my dry areas. On my very dry areas, I use a more intense product; i.e., Egyptian Magic.
When my skin is very dry, I use Diprobase cream; it is also available as a lotion or ointment. Aveeno is another great one, as is E45. I know some of these are treatments for eczema/dermatitis, which I have suffered from too, after I was burned but find them really useful for keeping my skin hydrated.
These are all individual tastes. Find the products that are right for you. Look at it as being fun. I know you will be doing it for “medical” purposes but if you look at it a different way, it can be enjoyable. Look at it as if you are trying out new beauty products, which in a way, you are.
Remember; everything you do to improve yourself now is an investment for the future.
Please have a look at this short video; I thought you might like to see a product that helps me with another problematic dry skin area:

I have found another ointment that works brilliant too. I use it on the part of my thumb that breaks out. I also use it on my lips, as these tend to get very dry, especially in the winter months.
